Episode #4: The Works of N.K. Jemisin

The Heroine’s Journey is a weekly podcast by women, for women, about women. Each week,  LC Brown and a rotating cast of guest hosts shine a spotlight on the lady-driven stories they love.

“Episode #4: The Works of N.K. Jemisin”

This week, LC Brown is joined by Tanya DePass of #I Need Diverse Games to dig into the books of sci fi/fantasy author N.K. Jemisin, including:

  • Women of color as the heroes and drivers of their own stories
  • Everyone wants to be Tolkien, and why that’s a bad thing
  • Why we compare Jemisin to the best fanfic you’ve ever read
  • Mixed heritage as a major element of The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms

Plus: Tanya’s Inquisitor problem, Dragon Age: The Last Flight, Adrienne Shaw’s Gaming at the Edge, female knights, Tamora Pierce’s Song of the Lioness, Game of Thrones and your emails!

This podcast was really fun to listen to. I got the heads up from N.K. Jemisin. Now that I know it is here I will check in and probably follow you on tumblr and twitter. The discussion about the Inheritance Trilogy has tempted me to read it again, along with the brand new novella. Another good thing this podcast has done for me was introduce me to medieval POC, as well as the Dragon Age tie in books, I am not a gamer but I love good stories. You guys are bookmarked. Thanks again and looking forward to episode 5.
